A Night of Adaptive Gaming: Building Connections, One Game at a Time

This past Saturday, September 20th, we returned to Butler University’s Esports Park for another memorable Adaptive Gaming Night. We were thrilled to welcome two new gamers into our growing community, alongside a fantastic group of returning players. The night was a perfect blend of high-energy video game action and strategic tabletop fun, all made accessible through adaptive technology.

Empowering Play Through Innovation

Our video game station was buzzing with excitement, with gamers diving into the popular world of Fortnite. Using specialized Microsoft Adaptive Controllers and a variety of customized switches, we were able to provide a seamless and inclusive experience. Players of all abilities were able to team up, build structures, and navigate the game with ease. The air was filled with cheers and laughter as new and returning gamers alike embraced the thrill of collaborative play. This event once again demonstrated how adaptive technology breaks down physical barriers and fosters a true sense of empowerment and shared achievement.

A New Twist on Tabletop Adventures

Parallel to the digital action, our tabletop gaming station offered a different kind of fun. The night’s highlight was the board game Castle Panic, a cooperative board game where players work together to defend their castle from an onslaught of monsters. With the help of adapted dice and tactile aids, participants are able to contribute to the strategy and the victory. Tabletop DnD again made an appearance for our gamers! It is a wonderful example of how diverse forms of gaming, from fast-paced video games to collaborative board games, can build community and create lasting connections.

Gratitude and Hope for the Future

We are incredibly grateful to Butler University and Butler Esports for their continued partnership and for providing a venue that makes these events possible. A special thanks also goes out to all our volunteers and partners who contributed to the night's success. Thank you to Reel Pipe and Valve for providing some great pizza and desserts! As we look ahead, we are excited to continue growing our adaptive gaming community, welcoming more new faces and seeing more returning gamers at our future events.

Thank you to all of our supporters who have helped us continue this mission of building community and breaking down barriers for people with disabilities. Your support is crucial in helping us provide a genuine sense of belonging through the power of gaming.
